tide and time – work in progress

A recent visit to Cornwall has injected new quiet energy into my project. The snow and powerful tides limited access to the outdoors and my visit was brief. Primarily a two day workshop with a day either side to explore the coastline.

The workshop further explored chance operation and abstraction, which factor quite strongly in my work ( and life) already. The two days focussed on freeing up the act of ‘making’ – using  automatic  ink sketches on newsprint as a starting point – developing these mark making exercises into larger formats by tearing into squares and throwing onto larger sheets of paper randomly to create new work. Outcomes were surprising and colour combinations uncomfortable at times. Using paper only made destroying the work easier, a non precious material that would be re used and painted over – no time to become attached to any ‘special’ pieces.

Strangely, on returning to my studio, I find my experience has in a subtle way informed my current project, in a way I had not expected. Maybe not so strange at all as everything we experience has an effect on what comes next…….

Happy Life.

A happy place to cheerup your soul and embrace your life.
