Enter a world of soft-textured whimsy and sinister undertones with Nottingham -born artist Permindar Kaur’s exhibition at Lakeside Arts Centre.
In the exhibition guide, Gill Hedley compares Kaur’s works to stories such as Where the Wild Things Are, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.Indeed, upon entry to the exhibition, there is a sense of having been transported to a fantasy world similar to one of those found in the much-loved stories Hedley refers to.
The first things to catch my eye, when I entered the large, bright space of the first exhibition room, were the large sculptures that resembled figures strewn from a giant’s paper doll chain. Such a surreal sight that plays with size is the perfect thing to take you back to a child-like frame of mind to take in Kaur’s vibrant works and multi-coloured material monsters.
