News Release

The Forge Open Studios 2014

10th & 11th May  11am – 4pm

A CREATIVE enclosure on the edge of Digswell is planning a rare chance for the public to see new works next month during one weekend of Open Studios.

The diverse group of artists at The Forge, who exhibit both nationally and internationally, will reveal their latest work and will be on site at the purpose built studios to meet visitors.

The artists are part of the renowned and long established Digswell Arts, which provides a platform for artists to explore new ways of working and reach new audiences. Each artist at Digswell takes a unique approach to their practice and exhibits widely. Recent projects include A Vision of Utopia in Letchworth, with Chris Groombridge, Maxine King and Permindar Kaur commissioned to produce new works.

With a busy calendar, upcoming exhibitions by Forge artists include a solo show by Ross Loveday at Eames Fine Art, a major new exhibition by Permindar Kaur at Lakeside Art Gallery, Nottingham, unique prints by Caryl Beach at Hertford’s first Arts Festival, and work by Hideki Arichi at 20/21 International Art Fair at the Royal College of Art.

From the prize and award winning printmakers at The Forge, including Suman Gujral who featured in the BBC’s Culture Show, Mary Down will be taking part in Turn the Page at Norwich, and Sally Tyrie will be showing work at The Late November Gallery in Pembrokeshire. The beautiful prints of Itziar Olaberria will also be on show.

Dynamic works in wire by Veronica Grassi will be in the upstairs studios, and Maxine King, who also co-runs film and video production company Kingstreetimages, will create a new installation with sculptures. There will also be 2D pieces from March Castle and Simon Robinson

There’s also the chance to preview the expressive and physical drawings and paintings of Alex McIntyre, and recent works inspired by Cornwall from Ella Carty, before they each show later this year at Watford Museum; as well as the elusive, mesmeric paintings of Gill Ayre, who will be showing from August at Mill Green Museum, Hatfield.
