I hadn’t painted for a long time and was a little nervous at the prospect of using paint again as well as drawing.

The course was ‘Creating Contemporary Still Life’

After arriving our tutors Nellie and Barbara outlined the structure of the three days and we were then launched into a quick sketching exercise of the still life that was set up in the barn.

From the quick sketches we then made small collages abstracting the forms. We then made mono prints and mixed our harmonised colours. By day three we were all set to start painting. Drawing onto our prepared collaged boards, working on five compositions in stage, blocking out areas quickly, switching from one to another. By the end of the final day we had five works in progress, as yet unfinished.

A really fabulous three days in beautiful countryside.

I found the processes really useful and hope to continue in my studio working on board in the same way, let’s see what happens.
